A to Z Challenge: C is for Carousel

Today is Day 3 of the A to Z Blogging Challenge.  In case you haven't heard of this yet, the idea is to blog (almost) every day in April, taking one day for each letter of the alphabet.

C is for Carousel


I don't know why, but I've always been a carousel kind of girl.  There's something so wonderful about them.  I don't know if I had a fascination with them when I was a kid that I don't remember and it just carried over or what.

Anyway, I was really happy to find a copy of the out-of-print book Carousel Horses in Cross Stitch by Linda Gillum.  Inside is 12 beautiful patterns of carousel horses.  This book was later re-issued as Holiday Horses, with only 6 of the original 12 patterns, but unfortunately it appears to also have gone out of print.  Sadly, I was a goofball and forgot to take pictures of my copy of the book, so you'll just have to look at these cover photos to get a sense of the beautiful designs within.

Incidentally, the patriotic themed horse chart is currently available under the pattern name Yankee Doodle (I think) in the book Best of Kooler Design Studio if you're looking for that one specifically. 

So that's what's from my stash, and here's my "wish list" part of the post.  Designs by Gloria and Pat also published a carousel themed book of 12 cross stitch patterns, these ones from the Cherished Teddies collection.  And guess what?  It's out of print too (sheesh!).  BUT, you can buy it as a PDF download now, so at least these aren't gone forever.

I don't have this one yet, since my stash budget has been spent too quickly lately, but hopefully someday.  What I like about the Cherished Teddies book is that there's more than just horses patterns.  There's also an elephant, a giraffe, a rabbit, a camel, etc. I love the variety it offers.  And really, if you don't find the Cherished Teddies patterns cute, then you just have no heart.  They're so adorable!!

And you know, now that I think about you, the other reason I love these designs.  Each set (horses and cherished teddies) has one that coordinates with each month of the year.  And you know by now if you've been reading all these posts that I love my monthly designs.

And apparently wishing for more stitching patterns than I'll ever be able to stitch from now until I'm 105...
