Free Pattern Friday: Super Edition

Well, I know I've been a little behind in posting Free Pattern Friday for the past couple weeks.  So to make up for it, I have links to 3 free cross stitch patterns today.  I actually plan my posts several months in advance, so rather than just ignoring these great patterns, I want to make sure that you are aware they're out there.  So without further ado, here we go.

First of is the latest installment of the Flower of the Month series by EMS that are part of the 2015 SAL I'm hosting.  If you want to come join us there's still time to sign up, all the signup info can be found here.

June's flower as designed by Ellen Maurer-Stroh is Wild Rose, not to be confused with the cultivated roses, which have a multiplicity of meanings.  According to Google, the wild rose has it's own symbolism and stands for pleasure and simplicity.

The PDF for this free cross stitch pattern (if you haven't downloaded it already) can be found over at the EMS website.

And since we're into June now, I'm starting to have all things summer on my mind.  Graduation just finished up here at work, so now it seems like everyone is kicking back and enjoying their summer vacations (unless, like me, you have to work year round).  Summer makes me think of beaches, and I found this adorable pattern by Rainbow Gallery that fits right into this theme.

I have to confess, I'm not a super huge fan of beaches.  I don't like swimming in water where "things" may touch me, and I don't like getting sand in every imaginable crevasse when changing out of my swimming suit.   But I love the idea of beaches.  And this cute little pink fish is perfect for a beachy stitching project.  The pattern calls for all Rainbow Gallery fibers, but you could easily sub those out for your favorite brand of threads instead.

The PDF for this project is available for download at the Rainbow Galley website

And speaking of the beach, here's another great thing that usually comes with beach trips: flip flops.  Now I love flip flops (I blame it on the California girl in me) and I usually wear them year-round, at least inside the house.  But there's nothing better than finding a new cute pair of flip flops for the summer.  The partner I'm stitching my summer exchange project for love flip flops, so I almost chose this pattern to make for her, but ended up choosing something different instead.

This cute free cross stitch pattern is done by Janlynn, and is available to download via PDF from their website

So that's it for this mega installment of Free Pattern Friday.  I am going to try to be better at posting these weekly again...

Until next time, happy stitching!

Free Pattern Friday

Well, I've fallen off the Free Cross Stitch Pattern Friday bandwagon the past couple weeks.  Between being sick and the previously discussed shakeups at work, I just haven't gotten around to it.  So I wanted to make sure I actually posted one today.

Things are starting to get a bit hot here in Mississippi, but everything is still in bloom, and it really reminds me that May is still time for spring and flowers.  Of course I'm learning that here that also means tornadoes and thunderstorms, but I prefer not to focus on those.  Instead, this design of spring tulips from DMC is a happy reminder of why I like spring so much.

I absolutely love the colors in this one.  I've always wanted to stitch it up as a bookmark, but it's just a tidge too wide for that.  Oh well, I'm sure I'll find a place for it somewhere.  You can download this free cross stitch pattern via PDF from DMC's website

Happy stitching!

Free Pattern Friday: Honeysuckle Seeds

Today's free cross stitch pattern is a little different than the usual patterns I post because you only have a limited period of time to pick this one up.  I normally don't like posting about limited time patterns for my Friday posts, simply because I want to share patterns that you'll be able to find for more than a small amount of time.

But this one was so cute I had to share.  This is a vintage style Honeysuckle seed packet design by Maria Diaz.  I really love seed packet designs, and this one is so bright and colorful, it's amazing.

This is Maria's April free pattern offering, so you can download the free cross stitch pattern on her website, but only until April 30th.  Starting May 1st there will be a new pattern there, so get this while you can.

Happy stitching!

Free Pattern Friday: May Lily of the Valley

It feels like I'm always saying this, but I can't believe how fast April has flown by.  Mostly becasuse projects that are due at the end of the month aren't done yet I guess.  But since it's the 3rd Friday in April,  it's time for May's Flower of the Month series by EMS that are part of the 2015 SAL I'm hosting.  If you want to come join us there's still time to sign up, all the signup info can be found here.

May's flower as designed by Ellen Maurer-Stroh is Lily of the Valley, which will be our first white flower.  According to Google, this flower was chosen as the May birth flower because that is usually the only month it blooms in.  This flower has been used in bridal bouquets dating all the way back to medieval times, which has contributed to it's traditional meaning of chastity, purity, humility, and sweetness.

So now you can have a sweet time stitching this free cross stitch pattern, and go download the PDF from the EMS Designs website if you haven't already.

Happy stitching!

Guess What?

Bunny butt!!!!

Okay, see, I promised my brother I would do that.  I've been bugging him all weekend with that as I've worked on Hoppy Spring, which as you can see, I speedily completed over the weekend.  So I didn't finish it in time for it to count for this month's Stitch From Stash, so it will count as my first finish from April instead.

If there's one thing I don't like about this pattern, it's that the flowers at the bottom seem a little off center.  Strangely enough, I realized after I finished the piece that pattern preview had them in a slightly different position in relation to the bunny than the actual pattern.

The pattern also lists colors for both DMC and Anchor threads, and I thought for sure once I added the darker brown of the bunny's head and the flowers that it was designed with Anchor threads because I didn't think the DMC looked right at all.  But since I didn't want to start over (it's due by the end of the week, and I still need finishing time) I kept going.  It seemed like the darker brown was way too dark and the pink flowers way too bright pink.  In the end, they must have grown on me, because the colors don't bug me any more now that it's done.

This is for a Spring themed exchange I'm participating in through the San-Man Originals message boards.  It's stitched on 14 count white aida using the charted DMC threads.  I started it March 25th and finished it March 29th (which is totally marathon stitching for me). This is a freebie pattern from Tiny Modernist called Easter Bunny, that I slightly modified by stitching "Hoppy Spring" on the bottom instead of Happy Easter.  The pattern can be found about halfway down this page if you'd like to stitch it yourself.

So now it's onto a new spring design, although I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it.  Pictures of that coming soon.  I also made some progress on my EMS flowers for the Flower of the Month SAL I host (finally) so look for pics of those coming when I post the check in tomorrow.

I will also be participating for the first time in the Blogging From A to Z April Challenge next month.  For those of you who haven't heard of it, more information can be found here, but the basic idea is that you write 26 posts in April, one for each letter of the alphabet.  Mine of course will be cross stitch themed, but I haven't really decided how else it will go yet.  I'm not going to worry about being too thematic, since this is my first time participating.  I know of at least two other stitching blogs that are taking part, and they're celebrating by doing a letter of an alphabet pattern a day, which I think is a great idea, but I just have way to much deadline stitching to do at the moment to participate in that.  Bummer.  But look for those posts to start coming in a couple days.  It's going to be like Crazy January all over again with multiple posts per day, haha.

Speaking of which, my Stitch From Stash update last Friday was my 100th post, can you believe it?  Thank you to all of you who join me and read my crazy thoughts and comment on my posts.  It means a lot.  I try to reciprocate as much as possible, although I am wayyyy behind on reading my blogs, so I haven't been commenting as much as usual lately, and I hope you all forgive me.

Anyway, more updates coming tomorrow!

February Check In for 2015 Flower of the Month SAL

Hello Flower Stitch-A-Long participants! I can't believe how fast February went by.  I know the month is only shorter by a few days, but whoo!  There's just a couple days left, so it's time to submit your progress for February.  How did you all do so far?

My progress is... well... nonexistent this month.  Bad, bad hostess!  I just had too many deadline projects that popped up in the meantime.  So I haven't made any more progress on January, and haven't had a change to stitch February either.  But apparently hope springs eternal, because I did spend a couple hours kitting up March's pattern last Saturday.

So how did you all do?  Obviously no one can be worse than me this month, so post your progress whatever it is!

If you are not currently a member of the SAL and want to join us, remember it's never too late to join us.  The rules and official sign ups can be found on this page.

Important Notes For Current SAL Participants:
To earn an extra prize entry for this month, you must submit a check in (even if it's showing progress and not a finish).  Your check in can be about the February pattern, or any other month you are working on/have finished.

If you have done a blog post showing your progress, please use the linking widget below to add a direct link to your check in post.

If you have chosen to post your progress in the Facebook group, please leave a link here on this post as well.  That just makes it easier for me to gather info and not miss/double count anyone.

If you're participating but using a different way to check in, please send me an email to brownieschair (AT) hotmail (DOT) com with your progress details/pictures and I will post them here for you.

If anyone has any questions, please let me know.  I will leave the link widget open through the end of next week (March 7th) so please check in by that date.

Free Pattern Friday: March Daffodils

Today's free cross stitch pattern is another installment in the Flower of the Month series by EMS that are part of the 2015 SAL I'm hosting.  If you want to come join us, all the signup info can be found here.

As February is drawing to a close, it's time to get ready for March, so I'm posting the March pattern of the SAL now so you can prepare if needed.  If you're participating in the SAL, don't forget to show us your progress at the end of this month!

I'm rather partial to March, since it is my birthday month.  And March's flower is one of my favorite flowers, the daffodil.  Actually some people say March's flower is the Jonquil, which look like daffodils to me.  Anyone know the difference?  I like to say "daffodil" better than "jonquil" anyway, so I'm just going to say it's officially the daffodil.  :)

According to Google, the daffodil is also called the "Lent Lily" or the narcissus, which I guess is the official botanical name.  The daffodil stands for rebirth, renewal, and chivalry, and is considered a 10th anniversary flower.  Presenting a gift of a bunch of daffodils is said to bring happiness, while a single daffodil can signify misfortune.

And now the I've bored you with all sorts of daffodil lore, you can head over to the EMS Designs website to download March's free cross stitch pattern, and join our SAL if you're interested.  Look for April's pattern to be posted in a couple weeks.

Happy stitching!

Progress Update: Day 22 of the Crazy January Challenge

Well, so far I'm keeping up well with the solo day progress reports.  Although I know that since the weekends I don't have internet, I will still have an awfully long update on Monday.

Yesterday was Day 22, and as expected I did go with a Mill Hill start.  This is Mum Bouquet:

This is another one of the kits I mentioned like yesterday that weren't originally on my Crazy list, but got bumped there when we found out the dates for our trip.  The goal is to finish it in time to give for a present when we go, then I don't have to pay shipping later.  I got most of the stems done yesterday, which is pretty much all that will be there for that dark green color.  There will be a LOT of beading on this one, since most of the petals are made up of bead loops.

I'm going to try and schedule my progress post for today's project later tonight before I go internet-less for the weekend, so that's one last update I have to lump into Monday's post.  Wish me luck!

Free Pattern Friday: February Violets

Today's free cross stitch pattern is another installment in the Flower of the Month series by EMS that are part of the 2015 SAL I'm hosting.  If you want to come join us, all the signup info can be found here.

With just over a week until January is over (yikes! how time flies...) it's time to post the link to the next flower featured for February in the SAL.  So you can start planning now if you're going to start it next month.  :)  For everyone who is still working on January (like me) don't forget to do your progress posts at the end of the month!

February's flower is violets, so there's lots of pretty purples to go with the green leaves this month.  In addition to being February's birth flower, according to Google violets signify faithfulness and humility, and are also the state flower for Illinois, Rhode Island, and New Jersey.

Head over to the EMS Designs website to download February's free cross stitch pattern, and join our SAL if you're interested.  Look for March's pattern to be posted in a couple weeks.

Happy stitching!

Free Pattern Friday: January Carnations

Hope everyone had a great Christmas yesterday.  Today's free cross stitch pattern is being posted in anticipation of the start of the 2015 Flower of the Month SAL I'm hosting next year.  For anyone who is interested in joining, all the rules and details can be found here.

January's pattern is for some lovely pink carnations.  I've started kitting this one up already, and love all the shades of pink and green in it.  Unfortunately I can't seem to find any 20 count fabric locally (I had planned to make magnets out of these) so I am going to have to rethink my plans for these patterns.  Hmmm...

Head over to the EMS Designs website to download January's free cross stitch pattern, and join our SAL if you're interested.  Look for February's pattern to be posted in a couple weeks.

Happy stitching!

2015 Flower of the Month SAL

A couple weeks ago I had posted about the possibility of forming a SAL in the new year to stitch up the Flower of the Month mini charts done by EMS Designs.  I did get a few "maybes" in response to that post, so I'm going for it and forming a SAL.  Hopefully it won't just be a SAL of one... :)

So this is my own personal official sign up post for my participation in the SAL.  My goal right now is to start each new chart for each new month, although with all the other WIPs I'm planning for the Crazy January Challenge, I know I might not finish them within the month.  But progress is progress!

If you'd like to join the SAL, I have put up an official rules and sign up post in my header, or you can find the link here.  Oh, and there will be prizes for participants too.

Hope to see some of my stitchy friends there!
